Summary: Megatron and Optimus get stuck in a cave
Author: @astolat
Note from submitter: this fic kind of rewired my brain? and I mean in more than just the ''it got me into transformers fandom'' sense it literally made me reevaluate my worldview (in a good way)

I finished reading Victory Conditions by astolat on ao3 and I will never recover. That fic has fuckin’ rewired my brain. It has rocked my world view. It is a core memory now. I will never be the same.

Excerpts from The Sacrifice of Violence by Astolat (absolutely NOT my writing) It’s written as Megatron’s perspective, in the continuity where he was a poet and wrote political polemics, including Towards Peace, his main manifesto.
Here, he writes for Optimus.

Oh I knew exactly what fic that was from the initial description.
I was always going to write a fix-it fic where Ravage left the Lost Light and went back to Sanctuary Station before Tarn could kill her.
It's because of THIS fic, however, that she decided to take over the Decepticon cause herself after Megatron's abandonment of his people.
She is the Stranger on the Way <3
If you like Voice of Stanix you should read this. It's G1 and VoS is heavily IDW-based, and VoS is past MegOp but not MegOp endgame, but @astolat is the reason I realised that Ravage being a poet (because she insisted) and rhetorician (because JRo wrote her that way) who was Megatron's equal meant she could do it.
It's SO GOOD.
I hate it when people defend fic by insisting that it is, or can be, better than published fiction. Fic can be very good, but it is a whole different genre, and really good fic never tries to be like published, or even publishable fiction.
Case in point, I recently read a story that absolutely floored me with the strength of its characterisation, dialogue, and sheer vision. It was a deliberate riff on the concept of Omelas, fitting a new narrative into the imagery of darkness and light, of solitary suffering under a joyful city. It engaged with the problem of evil and the difficulty of not only building a just society, but also ensuring it actually remained just in the face of serious pressure over time. It made me feel things I haven’t felt since I was eighteen and heavily overidentified with Alyosha Karamazov.
But I can’t share this brilliant gem of a story with anyone I know irl because it also has three scenes of Optimus Prime getting vigorously dicked in the dorsal access port, whatever that is.

watching haikyuu after being in the blue lock pit for a while is so refreshing. like they're so normal
#one of my favorite things about liking different sports manga is getting to compare the protagonists#and hinata and isagi have a similar hunger—that's a really big theme in haikyuu too‚ and hinata in reference to the way he plays as eating#is brought up but it's different than isagi. i think the most succint way to put it is hinata's 'the view from the top is one i could never#see on my own' vs isagi's 'im a striker' [and the whole 'we will‚ no i will lead japan to victory] thing#but hinata's selfishness is an important part of his character as well and that's how he growsa#granted haikyuu is a story about connection and blue lock is a battle manga so like the comparisons are Clearly not necessarily. Accurate#but it's interesting!! that there's similarities. and i guess that could be attributed to the traits you need to be a successful athlete#i was on the same track team as a few guys who are probably going to be in the olympics and like. You have to be insane for these things#oh also another interesting comparison is hinata and isagi's relative backgrounds; hinata lives in a rural area and had a lot less#opportunities than his peers and did what he could and isagi is Literally Average Guy From Average Suburb.#i have few points to make here it's just interesting comparison [<- i think i have already said this twice]#though actually yeah the themes of class show up pretty consistently in hq but very subtly and it's literally just in like. the way you see#differences in opportunities based on income and area in real life. it's just There Always#anyway i have to go rinse.my hair the deep condition is done#masayapping#<- YAPPED FR

And who knows, maybe I’m wrong about all this. Maybe there’s someone over there already And if we just get close enough They’ll come out to show us the rest of the way. If so, I’ll give this to you when we get there And watch you weep And I’ll pay my last debt with whatever I’ll feel then Equally impossible to imagine.

So I’ll make the bargain for us all And if there’s a way to that empire shining like an unsheathed blade with truth Buy it with all we have Though we won’t know if we’ll make it until we have.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't think Frodo is a messianic figure. He's the Everyman.
A saintly, virtuous one who tries his very best, but still an Everyman.

"body dysphoria to the next level" would you believe me if I told you that it took my friend explaining back to me what I'd written to realize I'd put my transgenderism in the giant robots. This surely has no effect on my idea that most mech pilots see rapid deterioration of mental state when forced to pilot too often, but that a select few, including Jazz, deteriorate rapidly when not allowed to pilot frequently. Or that he learns field repairs so he can keep them from taking his mech (his body) from him as often.
Ooooooooo, yes yes yes YES, that is some good shit right there, I LOVE IT. @keferon cuz this is part of the tf mecha universe.
Hehehehe, the program taking note that certain pilots are almost addicted to syncing up with their mechs, always clocking in more pilot practice time than anyone else, and getting worse if they don’t get their fix. They love these pilots because more mech time means better results. But they have to watch out because they get.. particular about their assigned mech, getting touchy about ANYONE performing modifications or check ups on their mech without their say so, trying to hold onto their mech even when told to leave it, acting like the mecha belongs to them. They need to be regularly reminded that the mecha suits do not belong to them, they belong to the program, and whatever the program wants done to the suits, the pilots must nod their head and agree.
Jazz learning mech repair for the explicit purpose of not having to give up his mech time for repairs, that is some good shit. Him learning not just for practical reasons, not just because the engineers and scientists around him shove that knowledge down his throat, but because he seeks out the knowledge himself because that's HIS mecha. It is him, it is his, and he can not trust these people to treat him- his mecha- the mecha right.
But at the same time, every pilot here has already sold their body and soul to the program. They may not have known completely what it was they were signing up for, but they got the gist after the training killed most of the candidates. There is no backing out, no escape. So what if the scientists and engineer monitor every aspect of their mech time, if they tinker and poke and prod at their- the mecha body?
But for these few people, who feel at home in their mechanical bodies, in this, at least, they want to keep this bit to themself. For as long as they can. As much as they can. Which isn't a lot in the "let's throw giant robots and humans at these aliens and see what sticks" program, but they try anyways.

it’s so insane how some of the ot6 fans are reacting to the news of seunghan coming back because i think for a while, they really thought they won. they thought he was gonna be another idol who was gonna get kicked out for doing normal human shit that for some reason, bothers them to the core. things he did PRE DEBUT were bothersome to this people.
but then, he came back. if it wasn’t for the members constantly supporting him behind the scenes and the fans who were constantly reminding sm that they cared about him and wanted him back then maybe this wouldn’t happen and it’s truly sad to think how these crazy fans who have no life almost controlled the narrative yet again.
i am glad seunghan was not another victim of this. it must have taken a lot of courage and self determination to continue despite being slandered by the media and the ot6 fans and also other kpop stans. all of this to say, that i hope another situation like this doesn’t happen again. it’s too normal in this industry to punish idols for being human but i hope this starts a shift in the right direction

No crafting updates today, but I did bake a spiced pumpkin cake! And I made salted caramel sauce this weekend, so tomorrow I'll make the salted caramel frosting. My hip's doing better than it was yesterday, but now the muscles around my knee on that same side are rebelling, so still no iron or rotary cutter for me

#both monologues are harrowing pieces of SS trying to overcome his pride after a battle#but while the E26 monologue is about a won battle with a great cost attached to that victory#with that victory not being entirely felt precisely because of the cost but SS *wants* to feel it regardless#the dead people stand in front of him he sees them he senses them he acknowledges them but then he moves forward anyway#fixating on the pride of the victory he also senses but wants to beat to the ground and *quickly* before it fully consumes him#so he buries himself to get that touch with his own humanity and his own mortality back#(and he does get it back as much as he'll distance from it doubling down on his role as a padişah until it's too late)#(it's no wonder his final E139 monologue bears some resemblance to his E26 ones from the helmet he wears to the color filter of the scenes#and him acknowledging his mortality again but sitting on the throne anyway)#the E40 monologue is about a lost battle that will bring a great cost with itself if they keep fighting#and on one head yeah SS now fully recognizes that cost and this is why he stops he *retreats* taking care of his people#seemingly having quenched his ego and pride#but on the other hand it took him the defeat to realize all that with him pushing further and further before#in spite of the risky conditions and notice how he wants to stay alive to evade death this time#with that rather pointing to his ego and pride having risen *more* than last time (he even proclaims the expedition a victory in the end)#all the while there's still enough (or rather more) awareness to hold himself back#also something about death vs. love (both quenching pride) in the monologues#of course tying to their respective batches of episodes that focus on either death or love in some way (Leo and Sadika's deaths;#(Hürrem's absense and horse and its death) linked together but what dominates in the respective monologues depends on what SS sees as#mattering in the moment; until love and death and companionship finally come together in the E139 monologue but SS embraces power anyway#also something about the returning motive in that context: SS's “returning is not weakness but maturity Süleiman”#vs. Ibrahim's earlier “returning is not an ability but necessity Ibrahim” (about his past and Parga in particular)#one can return anytime he wants to but refrains to and has to deal with having to return on a bigger level#the other wants to return but can't unless a reason emerges and permission is given and he completely takes in the return#magnificent century#muhteşem yüzyıl#muhtesem yuzyil#sultan suleiman#sultan suleyman
